Shane and I hit the water around 6:30 this morning. We havent been up to Parksville in over a week or two, so we decided to go and see if we can find some topwater fish. We headed towards a slough and lots of small spots were beating on the shad, we managed 3 spots, 1 keeper going about 15 inches before they quit.

So by 8:00 we slowed down with jigs and fished pretty shallow for a while, only managed another 2 fish, which were solid keepers. 1 was an 18" spaaat and the other measured 17". But after a good 45 minutes and hardly any hits we settled down even more and went deep. We were jig fishing in 30-40FT of water and caught 4 more by 11AM. 2 were small keepers and the others we didnt measure. Had one spot that needed fizzing today, I have never had to fizz a spotted bass before... emoScratch Im sure you folks do quite a bit. I have fizzed largemouth of course but all my spots no matter how deep have always swam off except for until today. So I fizzed him and he swam off like they always do.

Best 5 shouldve gone about 8lbs today with the two good spots boated midway through the morning. I hear 5-7lbs been winning up there every week. I sure has been tough lately since the cold front brought that water down. The water temps were around 80F this morning BTW... We need about 90+F for the bass to pick up this summer. Hopefully we'll see that soon. emoConfused
Good luck on the water guys...
