It has been well over a year since Tyler Ware asked me to take him crappie fishing. We just never could get together for some reason before today, but it was a very good morning for us.

We fished from 10:00 til about 12:50 or just under 3 hours of fishing. It was sunny, very windy, wind chill was biting, but the air temp was ok as we both had on enough clothes to have a sale at JC Penneys. emoBig
The crappie bite more than made up for the cold conditions. We landed 26 crappie and Tyler landed 1 small spotted deformed bass and I lost a good looking spotted bass that was a long quick release after about 30 seconds of fight. Of the 26 crappie, 25 were keeper sized and only one of the keeper size was under 11" long. We released the 10.5 inche crappie. We each lost a good keeper trying to lift it into the boat rather than using the dip net that was at our feet. emoBang So, Tyler has 22 crappie to clean this afternoon.

The fish were caught on 1/32 oz jigs with bobby garland 2" shad bodies. Most were on a 12 count, but in one spot, I landed 5 fish in a row and they were on a 6 count and hit the lure on the drop. Just saw the line jump, didn't feel a thing. Set the hook and the fight was on. We fished docks that were sort of out of the wind a little bit. Water flow and north wind made fishing the bluff almost impossible, so I just showed Tyler how to position the boat to fish that particular bluff. I can fish that with a south wind, but a north wind with that much current is just a little bit more than I care to work with.

I had a great time with you this morning, Tyler. Hope that you learned a little bit. Sounds like you already know enough to fill your freezer. emoBig
emoGeezer

Water temp was 46.7 degrees and the water flow was 86,400 at 10:00 and 97,000 at 12:00 noon.
