Bprice, Neal and I got out for a little bit Monday afternoon. Neal loves to fish but had never really been outside farm ponds much less caught anything over 4 pounds. He's been itching to go catfishing and get a big one, so we
dled up and headed to Guntersville dam where TVA was ripping 101K. The west wind was rough but the heavy current made it manageable. We started off trying to catch some sauger but that was almost a bust until Neal hooked our only one and it was a dandy. Other than that the catch was made up of white bass and the occasional teeny-tiny striper. We fed'em nearly 3 dozen minnows on sauger jigs and decided to head down river to get on some cat action. The first stop produced memories for a lifetime especially for Neal. We were setup for less than 30 seconds when a rod went down. We let Neal call dibs and he battled the ol' girl against heavy current for nearly 8 minutes before we saw the cat roll up. We had some high fives and weighed her in at 52 pounds! Not too bad for a first big cat! We caught most of the battle on tape (post shortly). That quick bite spoiled us and made for a long evening, as we didn't even get another sniff. We were still fairly excited and stopped off on the way home for some dirty Mexican food and a round of celebratory cervezas. The next day Neal was still talking about that fish.
