Hal and I went out this morning around 10:00 to put out a crappie condo that I had fabricated from river cane. I picked the spot out yesterday while I was out, so it didn't take long for us to get on the spot and drop the cover. Should be in a hot spot, out of the way of most boat traffic and in an area that crappie like to hang out. emoBig

Since the feeding period wasn't until about 1:00 PM, we did a lot of scouting new areas, waypointing some brush that we located, checked out potential spots for other cane projects, and then checked some old areas to see if any crappie were active. We bombed out in several of our old spots. Hal asked where we could go to catch some fish and I told him that I knew where we could catch some fish, but it would take about a 20 minute run. So, we made the run and arrived just in time for the feeding period.

Another banner 1.5 hours of fishing. We landed 31 crappie, only had about 4 or 5 that were less than legal size, threw back all fish between 10 and 11", which was about 3 or 4 fish, and kept 23 nice slab crappie for a fish fry. We had 3 over 13" and several over 12". Fish were caught on 1/32 oz jigs and various plastic bodies. Pearl with a red tail light was a hot color combo today. I caught several on the albino shad with the chartreuse tail light as well. We were fishing in the river and the last 5 fish came off a bluff structure. However, the fish were all on a 6 count again today. Nothing deep. I only lost 1 jig today. Hal lost 1 or 2. When the fish would slow down, we would change colors or profiles and the fish would start back up again until finally getting out of the feeding period. That's when we decided to quit for the day.

We did go look on the graph at some of the cane buckets that we put out a few weeks ago, and found fish around them, but didn't take the time to fish any of them yet. That will be for another time and warmer weather. Gator came by the house to take pics for us. Nice seeing you, Gator. emoBig
