Well we went to church and it was just too too pretty not to get on the water. Sam and I had replaced the cranking battery on the boat yesterday. When we got on the water today around 1pm we learned that we needed more voltage because none of the electronics worked. However motor started up and ran well. So we are fishing without eyes! emoDoh Oh well guess we have to do it the old fashion way - think about the recent fishing reports and then settle on a strategy and stick with it. So from the dam we ran way up river past the nuke plants. I wanted to do that any way to run some gas through the motor. We settled on a main creek and started at the mouth and started working our way back. Did not get a single bite in the deep water where the creek and the main lake come together. So I cranked the motor and we ran back about 1/3 of the way into the creek. Did I mention the trolling motor was working off one battery? emoDoh Set up a drift down a North bank with the wind so I would have to use much juice on the Trolling motor and threw cranks and spinners. I had one small bass follow my crank bait all the way to the boat and swipe at it when I paused it and pulled it out of the water. Okay what are the fish telling me. emoGeezer Hmmm. Maybe they want a slow approach... but no takers. So switch to the South bank with some shade and change to a suspending jerk bait with a rattle. Bam! Get bit immediately. Pretty small one - jerk bait is almost as big as the fish. Throw a few more times Bam! This one is bigger. Starting to get a little confidence now. Bam - a bigger one. Bam! another big one about 3lbs inhaled it. Now I know what the pros mean when they say it just loaded up on them. I mean one minute the line is slack and then next minute it is loaded up baby! emoDance Moved up the creek toward the main channel because it seemed like we wore them out where we were. The shadows looked right there now too! Man was I glad I moved. Bam - Jack I got something big! A personal best from the Chick! Tipping the boga grip right at 7 lbs! Man what a hog! Last fish of the day with the shadows getting a little long and temps cooling blasted off to get home to hots dogs and chillie - the little lady had a celebration meal waiting! Yee haw! What a day!
