So what if it was raining just a little bit when we started. We had the lake almost to ourselves. That is Hal and I had a crappie fishing trip planned for today and we weren't going to let a little rain stop us from our appointed rounds. emoBigSmile

Boy, we really had to work for the fish today. Actually, we just had to be patient until the feeding period. We caught about 3 stragglers early on, then had to wait until the movement for the flurry that I knew would come. I just didn't expect it to be over as quickly as it happened. We ended up with 16 crappie, 6 bluegills, 1 largemouth and 1 spotted bass. We kept 10 crappie and the spotted bass and released all the other fish. Most of the crappie were legal size, just not 11" long. What we lacked in numbers, we more than made up for in quality. Big healthy slab crappie and the spotted bass was over 2 pounds. The largemouth bass was the lucky one. It was only 14.5 inches long, but almost 2 pounds in size. The bluegill ran bigger today too.

I fished exclusively with 1.5" tiny sassy shads in glow color and were fished on 1/32 oz jigheads. Yesterday, I was doing a little organizing my tackle, and ran across these tiny sassy shads that I had put up and forgotten about. I used to catch a lot of crappie on these little lures. I'll bet that I haven't fished them in 5 or 6 years. They still work.

We had to fish in the rain for about 2 hours, then it just quit raining and turned a quite a bit colder, so after the fish bite was over, we did a little scouting and called it a day. Do you think that the feeding tables are just a bunch of bologna and nothing much to it? The fish turned on about 10 minutes before the peak of the movement according to my watch. We had doubles on at least twice and caught the majority of the fish in about 20 minutes and then it was over. Hal called a friend that was fishing on another lake and asked him when he caught his fish. It was at the same time that we caught our fish. We are not in a good moon phase right now. Beginning this weekend though, the fishing should get red-hot for a few days. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
