Pete (Nautica man) took me to the Riverpark to try for a TARP drum today. He caught the TARP drum and I came up 1 inch short of one. I came up 3/4 inch short on a TARP smallmouth bass. emoBang But the big story was the bass that we caught. I got onto the big white bass and between us we caught 20 white bass. I kept one limit (15) for the freezer. Pete caught a smallmouth bass that was 19.75 inches long and about 4 pounds. I caught a smallmouth bass that we thought was a drum for 2 or 3 minutes before it came to the net. 19.25 inches and 4 lb 5 ozs. Much fun. I caught another 14" smallmouth and 2 little rockfish. We each caught a small spotted bass and Pete caught another nice big drum.
Pete caught his big smallie on a 1 oz spinner bait and all the rest of the fish came on a 1/8 oz jighead with a plastic minnow type bait glued to it. Of course, the tail was dipped in garlic chartreuse spike-it. We left the white bass still biting like mad. I may go back down there in a day or so to see if they are still there.
Pete, I thank you so much for taking me fishing today. It is a joy to be able to fish and not have to worry about the trolling motor or do any thinking. I just fished and had a ball today. I'm looking forward to doing this again with you real soon.emoBig
