Jerry came over from the valley this morning to try some crappie fishing. He has been out of action for awhile with a bad shoulder and killer cold. At 9:00 this morning CFP was a mad house. It was fun just to watch the action on the ramp. Amazing no one was killed. We finally got underway and headed for a deep dock, no luck there. Figuring those fish had probably moved back further in the bays as the water warmed we decided to try some spawning shoreline in a good bay. First cast in about 8' of water and a real nice dark male. We caught about 15 there and on a blowdown on another shore. Also got a nice 3# spot near the blowdown. We were mostly using BG Shad in 1/32 and 1/16 jigs. Color didn't seem to make a difference. These were some really fat chunky fish with almost no smalls.

Ate a little lunch and decided to head up lake to try some spawning bays there. Scanned a deadfall that was just full of crappie. We caught another 6 or 7 there and then moved further back in the bay to a shallow stump field. It was loaded with good fish, large black male on first cast. We only caught one large female full of eggs, but they should be in there soon. Water temp in the 60's. Left fish there to try another spawning bay and moved into a very shallow stump field. I said this is too shallow, only about 18" of water around the stumps. We got bit 5 or 6 more times there. I was amazed that the fish would hold that shallow at 2:00 in the afternoon on a bright sunny day. This was to have been a mostly prospecting day to see where the fish were. We ended the day with 34 crappie, 6 Bass, 1 Drum and several yellow bass and gills and a couple of shiners.

Had a fun day, If I could just get Jerry to pay attention to his line we could have had about 10 more fish, lol. emoPoke All fish returned to the lake. Time to get out to the spawning bays guys the spring bite is on hot and heavy.

Regards, Labman
