Slipped out at about noon today to do a little crappie prospecting. I like to try and find new places to catch the wily mr crappie. Wind was very tough, so I started in a spawning bay, working the shallow stumps. Picked up several good fish, but not a real fast bite.

Moved to another protected bay and worked some more shallow stump fields. Picked up a couple very nice crappie and then got a 4.25 # bass from a stump in about 3' of water. That was challenging, on 4# line. Saw 6 deer also and a wood duck pair.

Decided to make one last move to an underwater tree I found that was holding crappie last week. I love the structure scan, made a pass by the tree and it is holding crappie in the top at 4-6' deep in 20' water. Caught a fish on the first 9 casts, almost as soon as it hit the water. They were a mix of very good fish and a few smalls. I love being able to see the fish and then cast to them and get a hit. Very cool. I ended up catching 19 from the tree before heading for the dock. Ended the day with 27 keeper crappie and several smalls,1 Blacknose, 1 large Bass, a Spot I think, 21" and 1 smaller bass. All fish returned to the lake for another day.

Waves were beating me up on the way home. Very windy.

Regards, Labman
