Just wondering if anybody else uses these? I am pretty sure they are called slinky's. I have used them for many years. I do a lot of drift fishing with a lot of different baits like fly's, sucker meat, hellgies , minnows etc. To me they seam to not get snaged up as often as split shot or some of the other weights. I was just wondering what everyone thoughts were on them? I know that a lot of people use pencil lead. Here is a pic of one in case you don't know what i am talking about. Thanks for any replies.

I have tried them, they work ok. I just don't like the price of them and when you do loose one, you loose more $. I prefer the pencil lead. If you have the right amount of lead on, you should not snag much at all. If I am bass fishing or bait fishing in a gravel river I actually prefer to use egg sinkers. I like the way they can slide and move.

Depending on many factors I either use pencil lead, slinkies, or rubber tubing with 00 buckshot. They all have their place. Since my daughter makes my slinkies, they are very cheap. You cvan buy the stuff to make them at the local sporting goods (Sportsman's and Cabela's both carry the components).

You can make your own slinkys with some tubing and shot. They drag bottom a little "softer" than pencil lead, and don't sink quite as fast for the same size.
Pencil lead is fast, easy, and you can cut whatever size you want/need at the time.
If slinkys are your preference, build your own and save money too.

I have been making my own for years. If i had to buy them that would definitely put a dent in the wallet. I have see the rubber tubing and buckshot method but never tried it. I mite have to get some tubing and give it a try.

I could never feel bottom w/ slinky's so I stick w/ pencil lead and rubber tubing. Usually works well for me.

I like the pencil lead and rubber. I pretie them starting at 1/4" 1/2", 3/4", 1", and then in half inch increments all the way up to 4". I wrap the leader around each one and then into a baggie. I fill a plastic tackle tray with them that fits into a tackle bag. That way I can change or replace as needed and never tie a weight while fishing.

yes there quite popular here many guys make there ownits just parachute cord filled with small splits and sealed at each end with heat.they even sell the equipment to make [parachute cord and tool to melt ends at many sporting goods stores here..
