EricM, sahara desert (nuke plant)(same difference), blue cats, 4-30-2010
#1
I woke up early and decided to test the nuke waters again. I had shiners left over from yesterday so I started on the channel edges to see what I could catch. Nothing! Not a single largemouth or spot or white bass or catfish. I tried both sides of the river channel with the same results. I went over to the discharge and used both skipjack and shiners there. No interest in the shiners at all, and finally I found two blue cats at 6 and 8 pounds. They were just as full as little ticks, with hugely distended bellies. The pic dosen't do the belly justice. A short while ago Spur opened one up and it was full of clams or mussels. It must be what these were eating too.

Still no sign of shad there, or of much of any other fish for that matter. I went over and talked with the commercial netters, and they aren't picking up any catfish either. In fact, all they got while I was around were some drum and a couple of buffalo. They said that the carp are working the shallows now too.

I wish I had better news for you.
