Crane Creek Res, I need help!
#1
Has anyone fished this? I am thinking about going up there next week. I see by Google earth that access to the lake is some what limited. I will be fishing from my Pontoon. How is access to the lake? Is there an area to launch around the dam? Has anyone had any luck there lately? How is the road to there? Any info would be a big help. Ron

I went on a drive yesterday to check out Crane Creek, C. Ben Ross, and Mann Creek. The weather was cold and windy so there was not much fishing. Ctane Creek was full the water was milkey as usuall the road was very good. It's only a couple of miles off the oil. There are lots of places to put the toon in the water. Usually fishing is tough. But Ben Ross is only a few miles away, as is Mann Creek. Good luck.

What road do I take to get there? Is it the one that goes over bear cr summit? Thanks Ron

I hope we are talking about the Crane Creek Res. that is north of Weiser, Id. If so, go to Midvale turn Rt in the middle of town (the only Rd that goes Rt.), go 1 mile to Farm to Market Rd. turn right and go 7.8 miles to Crane Cr Res. Rd, (I think the road sign is missing) turn Rt and go 2.5 miles to the Res. (I am not sure about the Refrence to Bear Cr. summit? but there is 56 Bear cr.'s in Idaho).

That is the same place. The road I am talking about goes from the center of Weiser and heads east. on river rd. it crosses the weiser river a little down stream from Presley and follows the bear creek. This rd goes over Bear creek summit to crane cr. This rd is on the south side of the lake. There is a couple of roads that come off of it and to the lake. One goes to the spillway and the other goes to the east side of the lake. I am not sure if either one crosses private land so that is why I was asking about which road to get there. The Midvale road sounds better thanks for the info. Have you ever fished there before? I am wondering if the crappie and catfishing is any good in years past? Ron

I stopped at Crane Crk just once but in an hour or so we a nice dinner of good size crappie. Saw some huge LMB but couldn't get them to bite. Seems like we were fishing by the dam if I remember right. It was 10 yrs ago so I can't remember for sure. Always wanted to go back but just haven't made it. Tight Lines [fishon]

I have not fished it for a couple of years, I went in 2007 after they caught the 18" state record white crappie from Crane Creek Res. but had only limited sucess at that time. This past week I only fished for 30 min. and froze out, no fish.
The water is going over the overflow and still plenty of snow in the mountains so I think it will be a while before the water warms up.
