drumking, chickamauga, crappie, 5/24/10, Wanda
#1
Wanda and I only had a short time to fish this AM. Dr's appts. etc to look after this PM made for a very short trip, especially when you get out just before the crack of noon. It was more like 10:30 to 12:30, but time flies when you are having fun.

I wanted to check out 5 places, but only got to 4 of them. One roadbed early produced a bass on the first cast. No crappie there. Then on to a bluff where we picked up 3 crappie and Wanda hooked up with and battled a slimy thing for about 3 minutes before it pulled off. She couldn't budge this fish. Every time that she put any pressure on the fish, it would take off and pull drag, then stop and sulk. She informed me that if this was a catfish and she got it in the boat that it was going home with us. Thank goodness that it pulled off. It did slime her line. emoUpSmile

Then to an underwater hump just off the main river channel where we picked up 4 slabs for supper. One more bluff that we made 3 casts out and we were running out of time, and I wanted to check out one dock. We managed 3 more keepers that were a 19 second count deep off that dock. Most fish released, but we did keep some crappie for supper. I guess that I'll have to break down and go to the Riverpark and try Rsimms technique for Wanda in a few days. Richard, how much longer will the catfish be down below the dam? I sho nuff ain't gonna be doing none of that dabbling thang at these boat ramps. Mis-spelling on purpose. emoBigSmile emoGeezer

Oh, I almost forgot the technique part of this report. If you don't give the technique on your reports, you might as well not even report. emoBigSmile I caught the bass on the first cast on top of a roadbed while fishing very slowly with a 1/16 oz bobby garland licorice chartreuse 2" shad. No crappie there. On the bluff, using 1/16 oz jigs and plastics, we both caught fish at a 10-12 count. Then on the submerged hump, on the very first cast, I had a crappie hit and miss the jig on a 6 count, I left the jig there and as it was dropping, the fish came back and engulfed the lure. Very nice slab. The 4 fish that we caught there were on a 10 count with 1/16 oz jigs. Finally, at the dock that had 20 feet of water under it, using a 1/32 oz jighead with blue thunder bg shad, had the fish hit the jig after 19 seconds. This was after the feeding period was over by about 40 minutes. It is hard to turn down an ice cream cone even if you have just had a big meal. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
