Bass Fishing in Rexburg, ID REPORT
#1
I fished a private lake (Rainbow Lake) on Saturday and did very well for how bad the weather was. It was raining, snowing, and the wind was blowing hard! I ended up catching 5 nice smallmouth bass and 9 largemouth bass. I only fished for about 4 hours and had a fish on about every other cast. I did end up losing about 15 which included 1 monster. Here are some pics! Enjoy!

I have fond memories of fishing Rainbow Lake as a kid. My dad was so busy he sometimes would pay to let us fish there for a little while and bring home dinner.

Back then it was just trout.

How long are the bass? I can't really tell from the pics.

$75 isn't too bad when you consider how much gas it takes to go all the way down to Preston or American Falls to get into the bigger bass.

All of the bass, smallmouth and largemouth, were between 11"-18"...I don't think that is too bad considering the bass weren't even active when I went. The guy's that own it say that there are state record smallmouth bass in there...I would believe it too!! I was just using chartuse and pumpkinseed jigs with a chartuse colored jig head...I lost about 2 monsters that really took me for a ride. The only thing that kind of sucks is that you can only use a single barbless hook, so that doesn't help landing the big ones...

Maybe I'm just a cheapskate but 4 hours of fishing for 75$ seems a bit pricey! Glad you got into some fish though. I hardly ever see people on that little bit of water.

You need to be a student at BYU-I. They take a group to rainbow lake for about $10 per student. I think they go twice during the summer. Probably worth it for $10. Atleast until most the rivers and streams are open this weekend! Woohoo!!

I sent an email to ask a couple of quick questions on Rainbow Lake to the address you gave. Here is a cut and paste of the response I received to my questions on the fishing and its current availability for anglers. Thought you all might like to know.

"I own rainbow lake and we have changed it to strictly a friend and family lake. It isn’t open to the public any more. We don’t even allow campers who camp there to fish there."

none of the fish in the pictures resamble anything they are talking about in the small article then they have a video of somebody catching a tiger muskie somewhere else probably in the midwest and they say this is a good example of a tiger muskie you could catch at rainbow lake. im not really buying though. i will stick with ririe and the snake river. all are close and a lot cheaper than 50 to 90 dollars a day. apparently tob has a hookup.

Yeah...I definitely didn't catch any trophy size fish. I did get a lot of fish in the 16" range and I did have a hit about every other cast which is fun...I don't think I'd pay cash money to fish it..I'm sure there are big fish in there though, I just don't know how many.
