Jmax and I joined the other 30+ boats this morning to fish the CFF tourny. Not the best day in the year for a tourny and by weighin the lake was rockin and rollin.
We started our day fishing a grass flat in Harrison Bay. We did not get anything in the grass so I started chucking my 10" worm on the other side of the boat at the grass edge. Within the first 20 minutes I boated 3 keepers between 15.25" and 16" all on the worm. About 10 minutes later I culled with a 3.3 lber on the worm. At this time I am really giving Jmax down the road. Every tourny we have fished together I have put the limit in the boat first. Fish were holding in about 5-8 feet and were NOT in the grass.emoScratch
We left that area and hit the Wolf to chase some of Jmax's pets. Not much happening there. Jmax did catch a keeper that culled us up 0.1 lbs. emoParty We left the Wolf and headed to a hump in Harrison Bay. Marked a ton of fish and Jmax boated 3-4 off the hump with one small keeper that did not help. We gave up and ran as far down river as we could go. We hit several areas on the way back up and picked up a couple of short fish here and there.
We hit one last spot, a steep drop on the main channel. This was the gold mine. On about my 5th cast I set the hook on our big fish of the day, a nice 3.85 lber (we did not weigh it on the water, and we both thought it would go over 4 lbs). Again on the 10" worm. Jmax proceeds to catch about 5-6 on a pig n jig (all were keeper except for one)Â and culled twice, with the last cull being our smallest fish of the day for the best three at 2.85 lbs. We had our boat sitting in 45-50 feet of water and were casting up into about 17 feet. The fish were really deep for the most part around 20-25 feet. I broke off twice on hook sets here so no telling what we could have ended up with.emoBang
We ended up with just a hair over 10 lbs which to our surprise won the tourny. emoScratch We felt pretty sure we would get in the money but to have 30+ boats and only take 10 lbs to win was a big surprise. We ended up boating 23 bass today (1 meanmouth, 4 spots, and rest largemouth). It was neat watching the weigh in as you could tell by how fat the fish were if they were caught deep or shallow. The deeper caught fish were fat, like footballs and the shallow water fish were like razor blades. A big smallie got weighed in that should have went 5 lbs and it weight less than 4.
Thanks for running the net today JmaxemoPoke , it was fun.
