Hal and I went fishing this morning. We did a little drop shot technique for a while. Caught white bass, largemouth bass, yellow bass, shellcracker, and crappie doing this. Then we switched back to our favorite way of fishing and that is dock/bluff shooting for crappie. The fish didn't exactly jump in the boat, but we did end up with 45 crappie, 1 largemouth, 1 spotted bass, 2 white bass, 2 yellow bass, and 1 shellcracker. The fish again were deep. I did have a bass break off after a 30 second fight. I must have had a bad place on the line cause he was pulling drag and the line just came apart. It had been a while since I re-tied the lure on. I do this quite often in a morning of fishing. Bummer, it felt like a good fish. Only saw one flash of white and didn't get another good look at the fish before he went bye-bye. emoBang

Hal kept asking me how deep are you counting down and I said until they hit the lure. Most of the fish were greater than a 12 count. Some were at 20 or more. I was fishing a 1/32 oz jig most of the time, but did catch some on 1/16 oz too. Any color was good as long as it was blue. Blue ice, blue thunder, blue ghost, home made blue. I did catch 3 or 4 on kiwi color bg shads. We sort of stumbled upon a technique that sometimes works and that is after letting the jig fall for what seems like forever, we began a gentle glide toward the boat, giving subtle palsy twitches. I missed a strike once, and when I set the hook, didn't feel the fish, but let the jig drop back down and got bit immediately. We started doing a more aggressive twitch after the jig got deep and that provoked several strikes that we weren't getting with subtle palsy twitches. Sometimes that little difference can either make a good day or make for a bad day. That doesn't work everyday. All fish released to get bigger. Most of them made it. We did notice that the white crappie that I caught, streaked off like a linebacker on a blitz, but about 5 minutes later, we noticed it belly up on top and not going to survive. One other fish did the same thing in another location.

Had a good time today, Hal. We will do this again next week. emoBig
