Gus and I had planned to get out fishing sometime and yesterday was the day. We got out at about 5pm and fished until a thunderstorm ran us off for about an hour and then we fished again until dark.

We started out fishing a spot that has been good to me all spring. We ended up with 5 bass and 3 of them being nice keepers in the first 30 minutes. One was the one in the pic with Gus, a 3.6lber. The fish were in shallow water on a 7 foot deep flat. All but one came on a crankbait that dives to 10-12 feet bumping the bottom. I did catch one on a carolina rigged worm when they quit hitting the crankbaits. Gus hadn't fished for quite a while but he finally got the hang of casting and caught a few in that spot. I tried to get him to get the feel of a carolina rig as most of the rest of the night I figured would be that kind of fishing. We headed to a deeper area that had held fish earlier in the spring and there were lots of fish in the water column but we couldn't get a fish on at that deeper area of the creek. We did have some pick ups but the fish just didn't seem aggressive. A big ugly cloud was coming towards us fast so we ran back to the house and got some tea to wait it out. About an hour later the storm was over and we went back out of the creek. Threw the carolina rigs on some deep structure without a hit. Went to a shallow area surrounded by grass but the fish were in the pockets of hard bottom where there was no grass. We caught one there. I had caught a few earlier in the day there while searching for fish. We ran out to a deep hump where we had caught some yesterday but we didn't get bit right away. We had about 20 minutes of light to fish so we ran back to the flat where we had done so well earlier but didn't get a hit there.

We didn't try the whites as the water in the creek had murked up and I tried it earlier in the day and didn't get bit.

It was a nice evening with a buddy that said that he would go again, so, maybe now someone else is hooked on this great pastime of our's.

Oh, we also had a rainbow in the sky for about 20 minutes.

Here's the pic of the 3lb 6ozer.
