Noodlin the Big G
Late report from Wednesday.
A friend from Cookeville wanted to try some noodling so he met Catfinger and I about 8AM on the Chick to give it a go. EricM came to haul us around and laugh at us...emoLaugh All we found were empty holes this day
, I dont have a clue where all my pets are. I figured some fish were better than none, so I let him mess around with a couple small channel cats I knew of. He was excited to catch any cats with his hands, but I was wanting a good fish for him.
We took off for Guntersville after that, and met my buddies to try some new places and some of our regular holes. First hole, Skyler goes in and gets hammered, ends up with a feisty Flathead about 9lbs. We found another small channel cat, and my services were rendered to extract it after everybody tried. I removed it, then we went looking for more. Searched a ton of waters, Rob getting a small channel as well, then we found a really good looking spot.
When I walked up, I immediately walked right into the hole, and I send Dustin down to check it out. Nothing...I could not believe it was empty, it felt to good. I checked and found a fish home and VERY willing to bite anything inserted into that hole! I told Dustin to come down with me this time, and the fish bit the rod and I pulled it forward and Dustin latched on. I know he was ready for a fight, but it was more than he expected he said later. He burst out of the water with it in hand, and that set the fish off...twisting so hard, the pics show how bad his arm was tweaked in the WRONG direction. Somehow he held on and ran to the bank! 30lb Flattie, caught, weighed and released. After more searching, finding holes without fish, we hit the strech of holes we have been working. We sent Rob down to check on of the best holes, nothing...I checked, fish home. I guess they dont like the Brit's flavor is all I can say. (he's from the UK) So again, I went in and pulled the fish forward, and Rob proceeds to loose the fish out of the hole... I checked again, and found another in that hole, this one felt waaay bigger. Skyler was up this time, it was a docile fish, and would never bite at all, so again I would go down, pull it forward and Sky would try and get a grip on it. Communication must have gotten mixed up because when we did get a hold of this fish, Sky kinda thought I was going to keep a grip on it....I did not, and when it broke the surface, it was ready for a fight and broke free of us in the blink of an eye. We got great photos of the action and even video. Even watching it, I still cant believe how fast it all happened. Just unreal. We played around for a little while on smaller fish, then had to head back to the ramp. Dustin, Catfinger and I decided to it a spot we could drive to, and we found a willing fish in a very deep hole. The water level was rising all day and just made it even harder to work. I eventually got a BIG fish to cooperate and when I got it to the entrance, Dustin was also there and we both grabbed on....UNTIL we got it to the surface....the fish exploded like none I have gripped so far. Dustin is no whimp, as seen by his other fish, and I had a grip on the bottom jaw and also a gill plate. I might as well have wrapped it up in paper towels, it was gone in a blink.

http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/....jpg
