I have read many posts of this lake or that. This trail head or that one. Could someone please give me info where to find a detailed map of these lakes and trailheads? I have looked unsuccessfully on and off for a few years and become frustrated with the search. Thank you in advance for any leads.

You can purchase detailed maps from the UDWR on North Temple out near Redwood Road.

One of the best Uinta maps I've found was a two sided map with the West Uintas on one side and East Uintas on the other. I paid I think $ 7.00 for it at Bear River ranger station on the Mirror Lake Highway.

I like to get the topo maps for the area that i am going to be in. Usually the most detailed for any hike. For other maps get the US forest map for the area. The USDA has been making them plastic and they are quite detailed for the forest they cover. Since you are in Roy goto the Ogden Union station and talk to the US forest service center there. They will have all the maps you need. IF they do not have the topos then you can get them in a couple of places. One is the DNR on North Temple and Redwood in SLC. The other I know I have picked up one at the Ranger Station in Kamas. So check with the Ranger station covering the area you want to go.

[#ff0000]The wonderful wife picked up a Magellan Triton 400 GPS Adventure Pack for me for under $100 on ebay. Waaaaay cool. It comes with SD card expandable memory, CD's of 1:100,000 maps of the entire US, plus $25 in credits to download 1:24,000 SuperQuad maps from National Geographic at a $1 a piece. A SuperQuad map contains six layers of topo, aerial, hybrid and digital elevation information. The 25 free credits are enough to get most of the Uintas. [/#ff0000]
[#ff0000]Just a note - a paper 1:24,000 quad map (49 square miles) costs around $6-8 bucks most places.[/#ff0000]

You want to purchase a map from the Forest Service that covers the Wasatch-Cache National Forest for the Salt Lake, Kamas, Evanston and Mountain View Ranger districts. You can get it at Kamas, Evanston, Bear River and Mtn. View offices for $10 in cash or check. No cards. Great map for the North and South Slope.
