CJ Strike Dam

We're thinking about heading to CJ this weekend from Salt Lake to get away. I like the idea of not having cell phone service, and quiet nights with my fishing pole. Has anybody fished that area recently? We're after crappies, so any information would be greatly appreciated. I think the area we stay at is Brueno Arm or something like that. Thanks in advance.

Haven't been and haven't heard anything lately. I think the crappie fishing has slowed down. The cat's should be biting in that area, jacks creek. Call or stop by the Fishin' Hole in Bruneau, (208) 845-2001, for the latest news. Good luck and have fun!

Bass fishing is decent in the morning and evening. Crappie and perch are almost dead right now. Some guys are catching a few at night with glow sitcks on their bobbers, but not many.

It is a nice time to get away, but fishing is slow.

I've seen that bait shop, was going to stop in and buy some lottery tickets last time I was down there if I remember right. I really appreciate the information. Either way, we might go, the campground we stay at is pretty cool.

Thanks for the Reply Mojo1, greatly appreciated. Just talked to my buddy, now he's not wanting to go because crappie slowed down (it is a pretty long drive), so I might be making a journey solo, but it still will be good. He's a straight Crappie man, I'm not picky.

Does anybody know of any Walleye spots in that area, or on the way there? I'm coming from Salt Lake, so either way, I just know the fishing is better in Idaho. I've read some post about Oneida, or something like that, but I get nervous because I'm not familiar with the area. Plus I get the impression you need a boat to catch, I'm a shore fisherman, so any information in that regards would be very much appreciated.

check out the threads regarding salmon falls creek reservoir just south of twin falls.....possible shore fishing for walleye, bass, trout, etc.

my boyfriend went fishing there sunday and didn't catch much in the lake but he had luck on bass, trout and yellow perch below the dam. hope this helps[fishon]

I really appreciate everybody replying. I read a couple threads on Salmon Creek Res. and am really interested in going. I'll have to google map it to make sure I have somewhere to camp and what not, but the more information I get the more I want to go check that spot out.

It's nice to have this forum, everybody just seems so nice and relaxed on it. Just really insightful. I'm hoping to fish rather than golf this weekend. Either way, it beats house chores and "Honey Do's."

Does anybody know if there are hotels near Salmon Creek Reservoir? Like I stated earlier, I get nervous when I'm a new area. I like to stay in a hotel the first time, then find a good camping area the next time I go there.

If you mean Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir Twin falls, Id is around 45 min. but Jackpot, Nev is lke maybe 15-20 min.

Jackpot, NV and Twin Falls are two possibilities. Check Tripadvisor.com for top-rated motels. Both are relatively easy drives to SF Mike

Camping is not a problem. Most of the area is public BLM ground so you can stay anywhere it is level. Jackpot is the closest I bet you could get a smokin good rate at some of the smaller hotels.
Please make sure your boat is CLEAN!!! Please go through a check station. We don't want any visitors that are planning on staying. I am not saying you stuff is not clean. I just want you to be sure. Ron

[indent]I've heard states are having problems with boats, but for me this won't be a problem. I'm a shore fisherman. I think that's why I'm kind of sketchy to go to Salmon Falls Creek, I haven't read of to many post from shore fisherman. Does anybody know how the shore fishing is at that body of water? I'm still on either CJ or Salmon Falls right now.

I troll within 20 feet from the bank so I would think that bank fishing would work. depending on the way the wind is blowing. If it is a wet wind fish the east side. Use a slip bobber and keep it just off the bottom. Cast and let it drift then recast. Use worms for slip bobber fishing. Ron

if you fish salmon dam i would bet jackpot would be a good spot to camp the first night and if you get to cactus petes before 10 pm that have a great buffet. one thing about salmon dam i don't think there is any shade whats so ever and it can get mighty hot. cj on the other hand has plenty of camping and some tall leafy trees [cool] when the reservoir gets slow somtimes below the dam and on down stream below the bridge can produce trout and bass in good numbers

the good thing about the cj area is that you aren't bound to one body of water necessarily. there are several productive bodies of water nearby. and several different fishing experiences on cj alone. from the bank most of the bank fishing areas will be packed. but if you are willing to fish away from the docks you can find an occasional school of crappie or perch about anywhere. fishing at night on the dam can be great for big trout ! jacks creek can provide an occasional whiskerfish as well. if cj is slow . it's a short commute to cove arm , i saw a couple that had some whopper blugill they caught at the boat ramp. and is good bank fishing for bass. crane falls lake is good for bass but is getting weeded up preety bad. but topwater can be very pleasant. a little further brunou sand dunes can fish well at times. and the lovelace bridge always produces a bullhead , perch, or channel.......good luck wherever you go !. as was also stated below the dam is always decent. try by the turbine discharge .......

I'm thinking I'm going to head out to Jackpot tonight, and go to Salmon Falls early in the morning (hopefully before the Sun rises, but only the casino God's will know my true path, all I know is before 10 you'll find me at the buffet line ; ). I wouldn't mind pulling in some Walleye's.

Does anybody know where I can shore fish there? Or where I should start?

I haven't been to CJ lately, but last year we were catching crappie off the dam at this time so it might be worthwhile.

If you decide to go, cast out and reel in slowly, or let the jig drop straight down and again, reel up slowly.
