I made a quick trip to Weston this morning before the wind got up. I got there about 8:30 and left at about 12:30. It was really nice out there this morning-- calm and sunny. The breeze didn't start until about 10:30 or 11 and even then it wasn't bad. No pictures as I left my camera at home --- I always leave something!
I think that this is the first time I have fished Weston this year. It is the same though, -- lots of eager little bass, that average 8 to 10 inches. I also caught about 7 or 8 rainbows -- 12 to 13 inches.
I was stripping two flies - a red and chartreuse one and a small green and white flashy little minnow imitation. The fish weren't consistent at all. Some wanted it fast and some took it slow and all kinds of different depths. I got about an equal number of both species on both flies. They just weren't particular.
I had one really nice heavy hit and it pulled me around for a bit on my 3 wt. I thought I had a twenty incher for sure. Turns out I had two ten inch bass on at the same time. Two ten inchers equal one twenty incher don't they!!!

I caught some crazy doubles a couple of weeks ago, two days in a row even. I'd caught two fish on tandem fly rigs on several occasions, but these were firsts for me. Unfortunately I forgot my camera on the Oneida trip, so I had to used my junky cell phone camera. There was actually a third smallmouth of a similar size trying to get in on the action but not enough hooks.

Went to Weston today myself. Kept on catching dinks and having a lot of messing around with my wacky hooked wave worm. Finally hooked one of the messing around guys and it was a big ol perch. What the "hey", why not? Broke off the end of my worm and put it on a #2 circle hook and preceeded to catch a bunch of perch, all between 9 (smallest) and a big "11 1/2" guy. Kept 10 and went out to the middle and caught 2 15" guys (bass) and decided to head home 3:30 after 4 hrs., got home early enough for a drink. ![[Image: smile.gif]](http://../../../images/gforum/smile.gif) Yum. ![[Image: shocked.gif]](http://../../../images/gforum/shocked.gif) Those perch should be gooooooood eatun. ![[Image: smile.gif]](http://../../../images/gforum/smile.gif) Might try for a mixed bag again, next time.

Way to go Leaky! I looked for the perch but didn't find any. Where were they hiding?
It must have been you that walked in at the middle of the lake, not too long before I had to leave. Black truck with white topper? Looked like grey float tube?
Wish I had known, I would have hung around long enough to say hi and maybe learn a thing or two!!

I have been really lucky! That is my second double for the year. The first was at Twin Lakes about a month ago -- I got two nice sized bluegills at once.
Doubles are a bit of a pain to net and keep from tangling everything. While I am netting one the other is tying my feet together!!

Yep, that was me. All the perch were caught against the S. bank where there the shore line has a gravel/rock face almost directly opposite my truck. All were caught in about 100yds starting at about 30 ft. out and out further a good distance. It is worth noting that I think I was getting pestered when I had my big worm on all up and down the shore line on both sides, so I think they were either in the mood or it was what I was using. My wave worm looks like a big fat night crawler so a small end piece may have looked like a piece of night crawler. I've been pestered before and just thought they were small bass.

That figures! I usually fish down in the middle area where you were, but since the weather report mentioned WIND for the day I oped for dam area. I figured it would be an easier area to find some sheltered spots. As it was, it turned out to be a pretty nice and relatively mild morning.
I've fished that rocky bank before and caught zillions of 8 in bass there. They are fun too, but I was hoping for some perch --- they must have known and hid!

Weston is down by the Utah/Idaho border in Southeastern Idaho, just east of Malad.
If all else fails, ask google.

The lake and fish pictures that gstott posted were of smallmouths from the Oneida Narrows Res. not Weston.
Oneida is northeast of Preston on the Bear River.
Weston res is on the road between Malad and Weston.
