In my quest to find & catch a big flathead catfish on rod and reel, I have been running some limb lines at Parksville to hopefully pinpoint the best spot. Not going well, havnt caught the big fish I was hoping for and seems any spot you put a line has the chance to get bit...
Friday afternoon the girls and I started out catching bait, problem was the dang spots would eat the crickets before the bream could get to them! emoBang emoBang emoLaugh After harassing Crazy's pets, we got a few bluegills, a couple small spots and a single white bass for bait. Started on setting the lines, got done well after dark and figured I would make a drive-by of all the lines on the way back. Found a flattie already hooked from eating the white bass, it went about 12 lbs.
Me and Storm went to check the remaining lines sat morning only to find one small flattie about 6 lbs or so. My baits are getting taken, but hook-ups are not happening. I think I am going to change up the hook situation.
After running the lines, Storm and I headed in but I saw some bass busting top-water off a main point in about 25 FOW and we stopped to chase them. I got two blow-ups on a pop-r, but no hook-up. Storm had one take hers down, but didnt get a hook-set and lost it. Decided to troll back to the ramp with deep crankbaits. Hooked 5 fish, and only got one into the boat, they kept spitting the bait. Fish came near points in 15-25 FOW each time. I will have to try that area again when Im bored and need some spotted bass for the freezer.
