I will be headed up to Kooskia in about a week to do some deer hunting. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the Steelhead are up the river that far yet. I might drive over to Orofino or Lewiston but it would be cool if I could find some in Kooskia. Any info would be great. Thanks!

I'm heading down Friday!
Here's a report from The Guide Shop in Orofino!
Fish Report 10-9-10
[#800040]Steelhead fishing is pretty good on the Clearwater River. The rain and overcast skies have made fly fishing better. Plugs are still working really well. As soon as the Clearwater River Catch and Keep season opens Oct. 15, bait fishing will be really good too.[/#800040]
[#800040]Fish are throughout the whole system. Some are being caught in the Kamiah area with plugs.[/#800040]

A little early for Kooskia....I would not call it a waste of time though...caught them in that area this time of year before...just saying there are better times to fish that area,

the fish are barely starting to show up at oriphino in good numbers i was there today and talked to a few guys that were on the river and they said they are just barely starting to get into the fish in that area so i think it will be closer to 2 or 3 weeks or more before they are in the kooskia area i will be fishing tomorrow and wednesday. i will have a full report for you guys.

Thanks for the help guys and I hope you can all get into the fish soon! I hope I can get over to Orophino while I am up there. I am actually more excited about steel head fishing than whitetail hunting. My brother-in-law put together the hunting trip and invited me to go. I'm sure it will be fun what ever I end up doing though.

Nice fish osprey02. I gotta get up there! I have a couple questions and if you can answer them I would greatly appreciate it. I've never fished on the Clearwater and don't have a boat. Is there any places that would be worth fishing from the shore? Also, I usually bottom bounce bait and flys for steelhead on the Salmon. Will that do any good up there or should I try something else? You can pm me if you would like. Any help would be awesome! Thanks.

Awesome!
I had one chase my fly 2 years ago by Cherry Lane that had it's nose out of the water for what seemed like 30 seconds. Of course as soon as it started to close on the fly I jerked it out of it's mouth. Classic!

do you just cast and retreive the spoons and spinner or are you letting them role through with the current? i imagine the first because of the lack of current.
