i know its a late post but i had to recover from digging my suv out of the mud by hand with the help of some fellow fisherman with a truck and straps. thank you again if u are a bft member. i'm gonna rant a bit... first of all why the hell would the rangers NOT come out to help someone stuck in the mud knowing i had a baby and 2 other children they didn't even come out to check on us what are they there for?. secondly "big johns towing" are a$$holes they wouldn't even start up their truck unless i had 175.00 to pay them, all i needed was to be pulled not 10 feet to hard ground, so here i am digging out of milkshake consistancy clay by hand with my kids, i have sooo many cuts on my hands, from all the clam shells out there. we got dug mostly out, then our saviors came to the rescue and pulled us the rest of the way out thanx again guyz, kicked them down a $20 for beers. so anywayz after the ordeal we decided to still try and fish, but nothing went right though, it was a burn out fishing trip we packed up when the weather turned nasty, only geting a couple 3" dinks. so lesson learned... be sure of the ground which u drive on at the lake, don't count on your tax dollars that we pay the rangers, they won't help, and carry around 200.00 for the tow truck to pull you out. tight lines all here are some afterwards pix

Dam syn that sucks[:/] good thing you got out though many dont. I dont have 4wd so I never go offroad which kinda sucks. And yeah the rangers are worthless never see them check for fish lic. never see them do anything about the countless firearm discharges never see them pulling over drunk/reckless boaters etc. Never see them do anything but sit on the side of the road tryn to catch peeps speeding. Did you ever get to put ur craw traps out? Good luck next time[fishin]

I read on the RJ some time back, C. Douglas Nielsen
the guy who writes the fishing reports on Thursdays had some good advice. He always took a big hammer, a large spike and a cum-a-long and one day he needed them. He drove the spike in the ground and ratched the cum-a-long and he was out of the mud.

Better to hear about it on BFT and not the news.

yeah i did get the trap out but only got one big crawdad let him go when we didn't get anymore, we caught more sunfish in the trap than crayfish lol, i couldn't figure out the shad net, but then again i was so exhausted from the 3 1/2 hour dig out, and my hands hurt real bad i couldn't throw it right, nore could i even cast a rod.

iamthesmf, that is a good idea i will be on the look out for such items, but for now i am gettting some heavy duty tow straps, and a shovel.

Thanks now u got me thinking of getting a trap bfore my next trip[cool] and sunfish are good for some things lol and shad nets are a pain watch a youtube video and spend countless hours tossin around your lawn, water practice is best. They also have a plastic ring disk shape thing that you load ur net in and kinda throw like a frisbee suppost to give a perfect cast everytime. Forget the name of em though.

yeah i saved about $12 just modifying a minnow trap(cut the hole bigger with some diags) i put the minnow trap and crawdad trap next to eachother at bass pro and the only difference was the size of the hole. so i went to wal-mart where wifey gets a discount and got a minnow trap and cut the hole a half inch or so wider. and whaa-laa instant crawdad trap. 7.00 compared to 19.00? i'll take tha cheaper price. Wow so much mud on those tires and rims!! I am glad you and your family made it out of the mud safely.

Just curious.. Did the rangers see you guys and just drive by?? or did you actually talk to them and they denied help??

A while back at Calville a group of folks had their boat take a crap on them about 10 minutes from the dock and they also said the rangers would not help them or pick up their stranded friends...

oh i talked to them on the phone and they told me they can't help but they would be out to check on us which they never did come out. our tax dollars hard at work....

yeah that mud was super thick it threw the balance on my wheels off i had to drive ( violently shaking all the way ) to the nearest car wash to spray the caked on clay off i must have washed 50+lbs of mud/clay off my tires and wheels, it was like 3 inches thick on the backside of my rims and u seen the front of them.

my tires are new, goodyear wrangler all terrains, i wanted the bigger offroad treads but they didn't have my size. i guess 4x4 don't mean much without the off road tires to match it

Eh, mud is mud. When it's clay, and deep, it will eat a Jeep.

Glad you made it out alright, Syn. Don't feel too bad, people get stuck out there all of the time. Now that you've done it once, you probably won't do it again. It's always a good idea to get out and walk the shoreline and check how soft it is before driving on it. We almost buried my friends rubicon a few weeks ago because we didn't check first.

I knew a guy who sank his truck sideways trying to offload a jetski. He had to be winched out, only two tires were in the mud, lol.

With the lake level dropping, it's exposing land that has been underwater for many years and it's takes quite a while for it to dry out thoroughly. It could be wet 10+ feet down.

That clay mud is real nasty. On one trip a couple years back, we were looking for some cliffs to jump, so we found a "sandy" looking spot to park the boat. I jumped off the bow to tie off and sunk in the mud to almost chest height. Had to have them pull me out with the boat. Had I been all alone, I may have died being that there was no way I would've been able to extract myself. Smelled Great! haha

That is crappy to hear that about the rangers, but I'm not surprised.

my dad just told me in montana two hunters on 4 wheelers came across a ranger stuck in the snow and pulled him out, then he wrote them a ticket for driving off the established road while pulling.

I feel you man, that sand/mud at the lake is killer. my girlfriend and i got my jeep stuck at boxcar cove once. it was dry sand and it still took forever to dig out. dig, jack up wheels and put rock and boards under the tires, go a little bit and start over. ive been stuck in snow, mud, sand now. lake mead is worst. I had a come along too, just nothing around to tie it too!
