Decided to head back to the water yesterday and WLG was ready to go after his morning at work.
Hit the Nuke about 1:30 with a boatload of rods and several baits.
We caught some bait in the boils then started scouting. We had a boat full of rods wave us over, they were from GA, Jasper i think they said, and we chatted for a few minutes. We directed them to a better spot than they were fishing, and scouted a little bit more. About 20 mins later I saw them fighting a fish and sure enough up comes a 44lb blue. They were high-fiving and Wade and I were well pleased with our "guiding" skills. emoLaugh emoLaugh
We finally got a hit, I thought it was a 20lb or so, ended up being a gut-hooked 4 lber?? How do you do that with a circle hook?? Poor little fish already had a length of red line hanging out of his mouth so we let him swim.
We then proceeded to try out several places we have both caught fish and and could not get a good bite anywhere. One time while I was holding a rod, the small skip-jacks that were busting occasionally came up and I dropped the rod onto the deck to cast my sabiki rig at them....I feel something on my leg and see my rod go into the lake!emoEek emoEek emoEek SInce I had just reeled in, I started sweeping down as deep as I could and got lucky snagging the rod with the sabiki! emoLaugh
Another time, I had run across the deck to grab up the sabiki rod to cast and poor ol Wade was standing on the back corner of the boat and almost went over the side! .....I would NOT have laughed Wade, I promise!
I did end up catching about 8 very small skips, like 4-5 inchers and two blue cats about 9 oz each. No kidding.
We told plenty of lies about monster fish we have both caught or heard of being caught, or seen caught, you get the picture. Wish we had found the fish, but left to the back-drop of a stunning sunset.
Life is good.
