Henry's report, 11-26 and 11-27.
#1
Fearnofish1996 and I, along with my son, fished Henry's on Friday and Saturday. We fished right out from Wild Rose. The ice was very questionable in places and down right dangerous in others. I'm sure I was just a few pounds from going through a couple of times. At one point I moved over closer to the entrance to the marina to drill a new hole and when I slammed my auger down to clear the ice off the blades the auger went all the way through. I didn't even have to turn the auger, just slam it down! If you go there, please be careful until you know where the ice is safe.

We fished for about 6 hours on Friday and iced 34 fish between us. Only one good one, a 21 inch Brookie. DANG IT! I can't count it for the 7 fish challenge because my son caught it. The average for the others was around 17 inches. It was HOT, HOT, HOT for about the first 2 hours (1-3PM), but then slowed down a lot. I think I caught 8 or so in the first hour.

Saturday seemed slower, but I still caught 15 or so myself. FNF1996 was ONE FIRE! He caught 30 in about 5 hours and I don't know how many he lost. A lot, I know. He lost more than I caught. So we had about 45 fish on the ice in about 5 hours on Sat. We did have 2 very nice fish on (one each) but they both got off as we were trying to get their heads to come up the hole.[frown]

Very fun time! Can't wait until next year!

Oh, yeah. Anything green and glowing seemed to work. I was using FROSTEE jigs with green and orange, tipped with a worm. Gulp Live Garlic spray may have also helped, but we also caught a lot of fish without it.

I also should mention that during the slower periods of the day, the bites were extremely light. I believe the jigger totter really helped with the light bite detection. On Saturday a large number of people moved around us. We were catching quite a few more fish than they were and I believe it was due to the jigger totters ability to detect light bites. If you are interested, you can find them by googling "jigger totter".

Thanks for the great report. Too bad it is over for the rest of this year. I am glad everyone was so successful. Henrys is truly an awesome place. Its just going to get more crowded every year so we will all have to look for places further away from the crowds to stay in the fish.

Hope you didn't damage your auger blades jamming them into the ice?

I'm pretty sure I didn't. I didn't hit it down that hard. I have had newbies damage my blades before, so I don't hit it down that hard when I am braking the ice off. That's partly what made it so scary.[fishin]

That is the one reason that I think extending the ice season is good. It just wasn't safe ending in Nov. Too many people push it to get out there when the ice is really marginal because the season is closing. Maybe with a longer season some will wait until it is a bit thicker to plan their trips.
