I think they did a great job the year I competed, I just figured out that derby's aren't for me. Way too crowded and way too noisy. Makes it so it isn't any fun for me. Good luck to those who do compete!

I have fished this tourney in the past as well. It is well run. I may do it again in the future. I am just busy that weekend.
Deep down I have a fundamental problem with public resources being used for a private derby. I think charity derbies are great social events and can be a great cause.

I see by your site that you have 150 people at your derbys.
By that I assume that about 200 to 250 people will be there as many will bring family and friends. Maybe I am wrong about that. I haven't been there.
I am not trying to attack anyone. Like I said ice fishing and harvest are ok by me. I guess what I am getting at is this wouldn't bother me if it was at a place like Willard Bay, American Falls Res (58,000acres), Blackfoot Res (18,000acres), or even Twin Lakes at 400 acres. Devils Creek res is 130 acres when full. That is kind of small to me for this type of activity.
Please can you explain your water choice to me??? Thanks

It is a put and take fishery . It will produce fish all winter and then be planted again next spring . It will probably never be a fishery like Danial's or Chesterfield . Just my 2 Cents . Curt G.

I know that it is a put and take family fishery and I don't have an issue with that. It is the numbers on a small res for profit. I just feel it is a shame to do this at a small local fishery. What about the locals who's fishery is getting abused? Why not use a larger fishery or a self-sustaining pan fish lake?
The "put and take" trout cost on an average $4 to $5 per pound for them to produce and stock. I know they will stock again in the spring, but It isn't free either.

Rainbow Trout are a put and take fish period!
Devils Creek will never be the fishery that Chesterfield is.
Devils creek doesn't have the Habitat that it takes to grow Big fish in any kind of numbers.
Yes Devils Creek is small, but if you think keeping one Tournament off of that Lake will make that much of a difference, think again! How big should a reservoir be to have a contest on it????
The Tournaments actually attract people to the sport of fishing and creates local revenue. Also there is a large number of non residents fishing that Derby that pay more in license fees than residents pay. Thus balancing the cost of all those fish that you think you are missing out on.
There is alot more good than bad in my opinion and alot more can be said. Both positive and negative, but it probably won't do any good to mention any more.
Have a good day!!!

Over 100 of the 150 that enter will be from Utah . At $100.00 per non resident licences . Each non resident gets 20 Fish at $5.00 a fish . Sounds fair to me . Curt G.

Well we dont buy an out of State license for a $100 but $12 or $13 x 4 people. Plus $75 worth of diesel that I buy in Idaho and my $240 for the 4 of us for the entry fee. Yes it might cost a little but the price of family memories is price-less. Worth every penny and more. I wish Utah's Ice Fishing derbies were as organized as this one. P.S. We don't keep the fish only long enough to put a tape to Em.
