Hey did you guys end up going to Daniels? My father and I are headed up there tomorrow if there's safe ice. How were the conditions up there?

ice was 5 inches of solid ice. the fishin action was great for us. i caught 8 one being 20'' and many 19.5 and 18's. i lost a few at the hole and lots of missed bites. i did talk to a group that was there about the same that we were and only caught a couple. so it could be hit of miss. it was a good day. i forgot my camera at home so no pictures. next time i wont forget it.

You can only keep the ones 20" and over right? And Artificial/barbless?

Thanks. That has got to make it tougher than most hard water. That and the one pole only. Does make me think maybe one of my flies might work.......LOL

thats all i use there are my flies. i seem to catch a lot more than with jigs. the one pole does suck, but its a small price to pay, cant you get a 2 pole permit or is it lake specific on that rule?

You know, It reads ONE ICE POLE, but I have a two pole permit that I used this year on the soft water.
It reads this: No bait, barbless hooks, One line only when ice fishing. Trout 2 None under 20” But does that mean per permit? [signature]

I have tied "chironomid jigs" that I use there that have been quite successful in the past. The fish will actually take them just sitting there without any movement.
Not sure about the 2 pole license working for ice fishing. Cole [signature]

I would interpret that as one pole only when ice fishing...even if you have a two pole permit.....just my opinion though. Since I have been checked there 50% of the time, I will ask the officer if he shows up tomorrow. I will repost if I get any info.

You are correct.[
![]() None under 20"." Hope the clarifies the subject. Flygoddess, are you going to try ice fishing? On a Lake? Is this the seventh sign?[:p] [signature]

Ya know, I think about it. I do killer with my deep nymphing on open water, I don't see this style as much different other than could be hard on a fly line if the run...LOL
But you know, I have the two pole permit and have used it for several years at Daniels on the open water. Been check many times for my license AND a peek at my hooks to make sure no barb. I can't find anything that says this is acceptable either, (to use to poles) So I take it, with that piece of paper...one rod/pole. In other words, you have a license, you can use one pole/rod...then there is a permit (or another license) for another pole/rod. I would say it is legal. I know most lakes you are allowed to use multi ice fishing poles, Daniels is just saying ONE pole per permit maybe???? I would like to hear it from the horses mouth though, wouldn't you all? I too have a two pole permit. At Daniels though there is a fish cop that checks it Very Often. He watches from way back with a spotting scope. I am certin of what I wrote and there is no other interpitation as far as mister fish cop is concerned. Besides the action is than fast enough with one pole.[
