Are there any mid priced kits for ice rods?. A Thorne Bro. rod would be great but not at this time. Something around $20-25. Or can another rod blank or tip be used. To be used in east Idaho mostly at Ririe, Island Park, and Henrys.
How about a durable and cheaper reel for small kids for the ice but not the combo reel sets.

If you are looking for a cheap way to make one take one of your old rods and cut the rod at the handle, then cut the rod to desired length including the length a little past the reel seat and insert the rod back into the handle. If the hole isn't large enough get a drill and open it up to the new rod diameter check the fit and use gorilla glue to hold it for the remainder of it's useful life. It won't cast worth a damn but it will work fine on the ice.

I don't know about kits, but like has been said, if you have a rod that is broken in the butt section or in the middle you can cut the blank at desired length, cut the eyes off and then retie them where they should go.
I have a couple of old broken fly rods that were made out of good blanks that I plan on doing that with.

I was thinking of doing that with a fly rod blank tip. I have seen some kits but most were real cheap. I need to look more for reel seats that will work for that.

Mud Hole and Netcrafter's both carry ice rod building components. I have ordered blanks from both and have had good results.

Don't worry about the reel seat. Most of the custom rods just come with the cork handles and don't have a reel seat. people just tape the reel on or use a a shrink seal type fastener.

Go to mudholetackle.com they have ice fishing blanks in all sizes and wts, The blanks start around $5-$6. Kits would be about double that. I've used these guys alot, great sales and service. Ask for Todd Vivian if you call or email.

I have looked at Mud Hole but they do not have a light or med action rod in a length around 30 " They are out of stock. Also looked at the other site along with several others.
If I hold the rod a lot to jig I like a hooded reel seat where the fore grip screws down to hold the reel in place and covers the foot of the reel.
