what type of fish is this?

i was recently fishing with a buddy of mine and caught a fish that looked sorta strange it resembled an eel and a barracuda but it has a fish tail and it has a strange dorsal fin i attached the photos so that someone would be able to tell me thanks a lot.

i did some further research and all odds are leading to a fish called the sand tilefish

Hard to tell with your pictures. It's definately a Tilefish, just not sure which subspecies. I don't know where you are fishing, but off the east coast, the most common species of tilefish are the Golden Tilefish and Blueline Tilefish(commonly called Grey Tilefish). If you're on the east coast, chances are it's one of those two.
