LAMAR, Colo. - Boys, girls, moms and dads who are interested in fishing are invited to attend free one-day fishing clinics in lower Arkansas River valley in May.
"These events are a great opportunity to learn how to improve your fishing skills and have some fun," said Linda Groat, an outdoor education specialist with the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
Activities include a day of fishing and instruction from DOW volunteers and staff. Fishing poles and bait will be provided for the kids. The Las Animas event is co-sponsored by the Las Animas Boy Scouts and the La Junta event is co-sponsored by the La Junta Elks Club.
Fishing clinics will be held at the following locations:
"¢ May 1 at Las Animas City Pond in Las Animas at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
"¢ May 7 at Sheridan Lake from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"¢ May 14 at Jackson's Pond in Eads from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"¢ May 14 at Turks Pond in Springfield from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"¢ May 14 at La Junta City Park Pond in La Junta from 8 a.m. to noon.
Participants over the age of 16 must have a valid Colorado fishing license. To register or get more information, call Linda Groat at 719-336-6608.
Lunch will be provided at Sheridan Lake, Eads and Turks Pond. Groat recommends that participants bring a lawn chair, sunscreen and hat.
