Territory Tuff - Live Braid
#1
Tackle Testing with Deadly Dave -"Live Fibre" Braid
On a recent trip to Darwin I was unfortunate enough to have my entire reel collection stolen from my hire car and upon replacing them I found that I was unable to obtain any of my usual Braid.

After much deliberation, and constipation, I was convinced by a well-known fishing tackle Salesman to purchase the new Live Fibre 30lb braid.

When I spooled my new reels with the Live Fibre braid and rigged them for the oncoming casual afternoon fishing trip, I realized that the Live Fibre version trimmed off the leader tails in what seemed a far too easy slice with a knife. I had found that I needed to be almost ambidextrous to hold everything to trim the tails of the leader joins with my usual braid.

I believed at this point that I might have been led up the proverbial garden path and probably sold a lemon. The words of the now (in my waning opinion) infamous Salesman on a recent fishing trip with me were "Dave, you need to realize, we sell lures and things to fisherman, not to fish".

With all of this in mind I set out early one afternoon with all the latest and greatest gear and two "Mug" refrigeration Mechanics to see if this Live Fibre braid was worth using or whether my wife would now have several hundred metres of really strong cotton.

Shortly after starting the first troll along a very fishy stretch of mangroves, the mangrove side of the boat line went ballistic and before I could manage to do much about things the fast moving line began disappearing into some very ominous looking mangrove roots.

A few explicits were released and I decided to place the boat into tow truck mode and make the Live Fibre earn its' living.

Much to our amazement the line quickly left the vicinity of the mangroves into the safety of some open water. Obviously the fish had run straight into the mangroves and I had fluked pulling it back out the same path.

As the boat reached a safe point from the mangroves the task of one of my "Mug" passengers was to boat the fish. As the line was bought in and up to the side of the boat, I saw that there was an 8-inch section of neatly, and freshly, cut mangrove root caught at the leeder join on the braid. Maybe this braid isn't so bad after all.

We then ventured off to a nearby rock bar where we plied the trade of the live fibre on 25 nice healthy, and somewhat unhappy, Barra. The largest of these fish was 120cm and the smallest 79cm.

Eventually we decided that enough-was-enough and headed home. On checking the Live Fibre I was unable to find any fraying or fault with the line and I am now believing that "THIS STUFF AIN'T HALF BAD".

Over the next 2 weeks I ventured out with 3 total novice fisherman and 2 whom had some experience with different line. The novices needed to borrow rods to play so I naturally handed over my spare which is spooled with the Live Fibre.

After having largish Barra attempt to monster all 5 people on separate occasions I can honestly say that the line again surprised me, bringing fish back from places where lures could have easily disappeared.

In summary, after being totally dedicated to the one braid like I was, I will be keeping the live fibre spooled on my reels, my wife will have to go and buy her own cotton and there are several people who will now convert to the Live Fibre.
Deadly Dave (DD) 14 Dec 2001
For More "Territory Tuff" tackle tests visit: http://www.happymicks.com.au

[smile] Happy Micks Fishing & Camping Online
Darwin Northern Territory Australia
The top End refers to one of our states called the Northern Territory. The fishing is hot, the weather red hot and the beer ice cold.

Have you still got the tackle shop Mick and how goes the sailfish competitions of late?

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com
