Great pictures! A hundred years of sediment is a lot to move in a couple of years. Thanks for sharing this.
If you ever get the chance, visit the Elwha. You can't believe how beautiful that river is up above there. It will be amazing to have the salmon and steelhead running in there.

I too have been extremely interested in this project. If it works and the fishery recovers as well as people are hoping it will be just the start to recovering rivers all over the west. Next project Snake River.....

Yea cool project. Or took out several dams in the last couple years. The Elwa, and Gold Ray dan on the Rogue and WA got on board with Condit on the little white. Great start keep em falling.
I think theres one on the Klamath that is planned

Some of the old dams are more expensive to upgrade and repair than to remove.
It wasn't as publicized as the salmon and steelhead dam removals, but Pacific Corp took out the Cove Dam on the Bear River in 2006. At 141' long and only 26' high, it wasn't a large dam, but its removal has been an important step in the improvement of that fishery. It restored about 2 or 3 miles of river that had been dewatered, and it also reconnects about 30 miles of river to some important spawning areas. A great win for the river

Thanks for sharing, Chrome. I was attending the U. of I. when Cecil Andrus pushed the plunger and blew up the dam just above the mill in Lewiston. Everyone said it would look terrible for years to come. Hard to tell where it even was after only 3 or 4 years. And one less obstacle on the way to Orofino . I read the comments that followed the amazing video, and continue to be shocked at some of the stupid commentary. Thank God for those people, I guess, because they sure make me feel smart!! Mike
