Little Payette Lake (Idaho)
#1
Anyone have advice on where to put in and focus our fishing (in float tubes) looking for bass on Little Payette Lake? I'm taking my son and we're hoping for success!

I'm guessing you've never been there. Your options for putting in are pretty limited, which is at least in part why I haven't fished it much. There is very little easy shore access. Wish I had more I could tell you.

Put in at the ramp, and either head west for rocky shore fishing, or east into the submerged trees. Mike

Fishing that pond from float tubes can be done but I've had limited success (enough that I won't fish it again until I get a boat). The water is so clear it is crazy. Cascade would be a safer bet if you are after bass in a tube plus you might catch perch or trout. With a kid, you might consider Brown's Pond (just a mile or so above the Little Payette) which is well stocked with trout and there is a lot of backwater between it and the Little Payette to explore. Bring plenty of bug spray.

The boat ramp is really the only place to access. As you stand on the ramp and are looking out on the lake...head towards the shore on your left, where the stumps are sticking out of the water.

That water is mostly 4 to 10 feet deep and the bottom is covered with weed beds. That is where there are big bass. The further away from the ramp staying left you can get, the better it gets.

But as stated by others..it's a commitment...it's not a deal where you put in, and all of sudden are into the fish..you have to go to them and it takes a while to paddle there...and then get back.

My honey and I spent 6 hours on it last year and conditions were stellar however onlyu got one hit on topwater...threw the kitchen sink at em and not only came up blanks...only saw a few fish total the whole time...I think F&G abandoned this place and it has very few fish in it for the size...Sad really...but unless I hear someone credible tell me it has recovered I wont be going back.
