Myboat battery for my trolling motor recently fell out the back of the van. It got a whole in the top and a little bit of fluid leaked out. Is the battery still safe to use?

I wouldn't. That liquid in a battery is nasty stuff. Ron

I agree with Ron, replace it. Now it will be hazardous to use or store. Dale

They do omit fumes...I would say it is toast.

... and those fumes are hydrogen gas which is VERY exploisive. I saw a battery explode, don't wanna see it again.
Get a new battery. [signature]

caustic acid, flammable gas. Um -er - thinks you've got yer answer.
But - dispose of properly. I've heard tell of folks using an expired battery to "extract" the lead for other uses- weights, pouring jigs, weighting a wake boat. Any input? Safe approaches to "harvest" ? Just curious - I've got a couple dead batteries I was thinnin' to try "recycling". Just remember "always add acid" rather than add water to strong acid. Unless you're after a fireworks display! (glasses are your friend!)

Well I guess that is enough answers. I duct taped it up and the batter works just fine, but I guess I will just have to get another one. I hate to wast the $80 as I just bought this one a few months ago, but I guess better safe than sorry.
