Saltwater reel gift ideas?
#1
Hi there,
I'm looking to purchase a nice looking pair of rods (with reels) as a gift for my Dad. He is not a serious fisher, but he and his wife recently purchased a house with a dock on the Chesapeake Bay at the Choptank River. The water is salty, and I'm not even really sure how good the fish population is in his neck of the woods. They'd really be more for casual fishing, so I'm looking for something that will last long and look nice. They have a 21' I/O and a 56' Cruisers that they could take into deeper waters, but they also want to do some Kayaking into the marshy areas, so something versatile is the name of the game. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Danny

Ah, northern fishing. Rods and reels really depend on just what type of fishing you're going to do.

Here in Key West we use anything from a fly rod & reel in the mangroves to big reels with chain for line (just kidding).

I'd ask a few questions to get an idea. Would they rather fish for smaller fish near the shore and catch fish more often or go for the deep water to try for the big ones.
