I check this place 20 times a day looking for safe ice to get after. I'm dying to hit mantua and catch some perch. I wanted to tap in and see where I can find 3+ of ice with fairly easy access within 2.5 hrs of DT SLC (No 4X4). I'm leaving town soon and need some action.
Hope for good news and thanks for the intel

[cool][#0000ff]Right now about the only "good" ice is that the Grizzlies play on. Not safe though. The ice rods those guys use are wicked. And you gotta watch out for that big machine that comes out and runs all over the ice. If it doesn't smash your gear it will at least fill in your ice holes.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Actually better to cast up into the stands and try to snag a hot dog or something. Not much good fishing there. Probably because of all the noise and commotion.[/#0000ff]

Haha - that's about what I expected. I would rather catch a perch than a game. This sucks! I need to get out.
Is there any ice on Mantua? I might drive up this weekend just to take a look.
Go Grizz!

If you do drive up there, post a pic please! Even if there is no ice to fish on, I would imagine some is forming.

[cool][#0000ff]Mantua is about the same as all of our other fave ice ponds. It has cold enough surface temps to form a little skim ice around the edges some nights but temps are still too warm to cap it over good.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Takes night temps in the low teens with daytime temps below freezing to really put a hard deck on it. Night temps for the next few days are not supposed to be under the low 20's...getting down to high teens next week. Still not enough. Late for Mantua to freeze but maybe Santa will bring us some drillin' ice.[/#0000ff]

You should attach a huge trophy on the end of your line next time and you might get a 200+lbs monster

It's bound to cause problems where there are a lot of "iceholes" too close together. Specially when all they have are these short poles. Yeah, I'm skating on real thing ice. [:p] [laugh]
