Minnow trapping in saltwater

There's a saltwater pond by my house with a dam. Any advice on using a minnow trap like if it will work or where to put it?

Keep it in shallow water, near some structure. They will find it. I use a can of cat food for bait. Open it up 1/4 of the way.
