Anyone been catching the rainbows, headed friday to try it .Was wondering if there was a hot bait, and if there is any decent access to the water for the walkin guy. Thanks in advance, im a first timer on the ice.

[cool][#0000FF]If you are more interested in the "Starvation steelheads" than perch you might wanna get on the ice at Rabbit Gulch. Much easier access than climbing down the steep hill (and back up) at the bridge. More perch at the bridge but plenty of rainbows at Rabbit Gulch.
The water will be shallower in most of Rabbit Gulch. That means the rainbows will be right on the bottom in less than 25 feet depth...but up as high as 10 to 15 feet below the ice where deeper. It pays to have a good sonar to watch at what depth the trout are moving through and to set your rods accordingly.
Lots of guys with two rod permits set one rod shallow and then work the other one up and down through the water column...or bounce a jig on the bottom for either perch or trout...or maybe a walleye.
Use small jigs in almost any color for 'bows...but white, chartreuse, pink and orange often work best. Tip them with plain old 'crawler, wax worms, meal worms or pieces of perch meat. Some folks soak power putty and do well.
Make sure you have good 6# abrasion resistant line because those big rainbows will go round and round and rub your line on the ice. Also a good idea not to fish too close to others and have them bring in their lines if you hook a big rowdy 'bow.
Here are some maps to help.

did awesome for bows a few days back on chartruese tubes, caught probly 30 between 2 guys ranging from 18 to a little over 20 in. awesome fishing for the bows, i actually had 2 poles going with my bigger rod about 15 feet down for trout and my little mini rod for perch at the bottom, all the sudden my trout pole got ripped down the hole by a fish and it was sinking to the bottom, i was so bummed but eventually got the whole rig back by snagging it with my perch rod once it hit the bottom and it still had the bow on the line, never have had anything like that happen to me.crazy
