I went to Echo for the first outing this winter last Saturday 12/29/12 and did pretty good near the dam, north side, with my friends. We caught 10 bows on white jig heads tipped with wax worm. I also went out on New Years day closer to the middle of the lake and caught nothing using the same bait. The ice was about 5 inches thick.

Thanks for posting your report, how deep was the water you were fishing in at both locations? Any perch?

I fished echo in the PM on Tue. Pretty slow, one dink and one keeper bow. Fished near the resort. Hit it again today (wed) at sun up. Temp was cold, but the fishing quite active at times.I was off the ice, limited out on some nice bows, by the time I saw more folks venturing onto the ice 11:30ish. Water depths from the shore out to about 15 "paces" of water. Ice was almost 4 inches thick of clear ice. 4 inches of powdery snow. Solid on the edges, with some slush here and there about 100 yards off the bank. Crawler tipped jigs and microjigs did the trick.
Now to do some info fishing of my own...Anyone know what kind of depth I should look for perch in Echo?
I just got into ice fishing last year. Did pretty well with the trout last year. Would like to target some other species since I catch trout on a fly rod the non-ice months. Thanks all!

Start looking for perch in about thirty feet of water and check deeper and a little shallower till you find them.
Perch will hold within a foot or two of the bottom so try to keep your lure within a foot of the bottom and watch for some really lite bites.

I picked up a handful of jumbo perch on tuesday in 23-28 ft- no big numbers but huge perch.... we also caught probably 15-20 bows in our group in a couple hours all were really thick and healthy!!! For the perch i was banging spoons on the bottom with waxie- green forage minnows were best. Good luck- Joeskie

Now that is good news, thanks for letting us know Joe. How was the hike up from the ice?
