Hey, just been seeing some concerns with Fabrill 2 man shelters at the same time I told a guy I work with that I would buy his from him... Tell me quick did I do wrong picking up this tent? What is a fair price for it? Yote, I wasn't paying attention, I didn't know that was what your tent was.... So are they really too heavy??? Thanks J

Well it depends on what tent your talking about.. Refuge ( speed shack ) Briefcase up or a recon DXL.. Its harder to load all you extra gear this one.. The Recon can hold all your gear.. I have both.. The Refuge Is a heavier due to th ply wood floor.. The recon DXL is a great tent but your not going to be able to stand up in it.. As far as pricing goes it really depends on the yr and condition there in.. I have added photos of both... I bought my speed shack used for $180.00.. The recon i bought new for 4 yrs ago for $145.00..

I'm not sure which one it is, but thanks to your pics I can see why it's heavy these aren't just the tents there's a lot more to them. Thanks J

mine's an older one - you saw it at Newton maybe? I do like the black - bit of sun, warms up good w/o clicking on the heater even.

I like that you can stand up in it. I also like that you can put all your stuff in the sled floor, then use the tent as a cover to strap your gear in. Once it's setup I can throw stuff in, then drag it around very easy. Sets up real easy.

the flat roof - on a wet day is a bother - puddles then drips. I'll post a pic later. Room for three holes, but really only comfy for two fishers.
Got it from a kind BFTer for $75, older, well loved, but plenty functional.

When I mean deep snow - I'm talking like feets of powder. I wouldn't mind having one of them eskimo pop up kind for days when I might not even need it. Usually try to fish outside if it's a social trip.
Definitely helps to see the camera action having the shade. Not sure how well it compares stability wise on a windy blustery day. But I've been pretty pelted.

Mine just has a rectangular sled, no benches or any of that. Downside - it takes up half the back of my rig. Great for a pickup bed, but limits how many people I can bring in the car.

Bottom line - I'm waaaay glad I got it. Money well spent.

Yote guess I got it. It's the speed model so no seats and it sets up fairly easy. It does have two poles that I haven't figured out where they go yet. It will be big heavy and bulky but probably nice on cold days or when I'm fishing shallow and want to look down the hole. My one zipper is broken so I need to figure out how to fix that. Anyway got a dentist appointment tomorrow but maybe after I'll try it out. Do you think the fish will bite after 10:00 at Newton or would Hyrum be better later in the day? Thanks for the advice. Later J

Has a lower broader profile than your standard jet-sled, and the nose if closer to the ground.
[inline FirstBittyGill.jpg]
I guess mine's a "Hideout" model. Has a pole at the bottom, and a spreader pole that pushes out about halfway up.
So you end up with the sled space to sit in, then a strip of ice to line up your holes. Doors on either side, windows, vent flaps. It's really not all that heavy (until I fill it with WAAAY to much crap for one day of fishing!)

[/center]
But sometimes it works!
[inline StackedOnTheIce.jpg]
word to the wize - NEVER put your auger in the tent without it's blade cover on! Ok, so it's one extra vent hole . . .
I know some folks swear the bite dies by 10-11, and they're done. Fine with me - I'll then go fish more holes, and be ready for "second breakfast" or the onset of lunch! May not be as hot, but still find hungry fish!
Look forward to seeing it in action matey!

Hey J! Mine is similar to the speed shack but an older model with 2 trap doors. The reason I'm selling it is because the weight, bulky too small. It's much easier for me to haul 2 smaller sleds or when I fish alone I leave the hut at home.
I think you will like it I just don't have the muscle. Frabil's like that are going for around $100-$150.
Smiles Always!

I didn't get out of the dentist very quick today but wanted to try it so I pulled it out on some ice by my home and drilled a couple holes to see what it's like and I can't believe how much heat this thing generates just from the sun. It's warm enough inside I need to shed some layers and I love being able to see down the hole a ways. My tent has a bad zipper that may be a little bit of a pain but I got it for a really good price so I'm not too worried. My biggest problem is its a little too wide for my big sled so I can't put anything but the tent in that sled so ill probably be back to two sleds to go now. May have to take my wheeler too. Thanks for the advice. J

i had a issue with the zipper on mine too. used a few velcro strips along the zipper. looks ugly but its cheaper than having a new zipper sewn in.

Good idea I'm getting it broke in today it's working great but still cold without a heater before sun up. But fishing is great so I'm not complaining. 19 fish so far. Later J

I have an older 2 man Frabill & love it. Granted, it's kinda heavy but I usually pull it in a big sled behind a snowmobile so weight isn't such a big deal. Mainly got it to provide darkness so I can see the screen on my fish can. Putting it up & taking it down is no issue for me since I lubricated the slides with some of that waxy "Door Ease" grease.

I think I'm going to like this tent it really helps on cold days. Just had my best day out this year. I'm waiting for one last one to make it 60 bows in one day. A lot of them were small but I probably got 20 over 13 inches. It was fun. Later J
