no one wanted to go up with me to day so i slept in till about 10:30 and took my time getting to the lake got up there about noonish met jonnym on the ice he said it was slow and it was 2 hour i got 2 bites and one brown then i move out and the next 30 mins or so i caught 8 or 9 more all 17.5 inch rainbows now i know where i need to go to catch them all the ice i walked on was 6 inches and clear with less then a inch of snow on it

Nice work, those big rainbows usually fight hard in deer creek, lots of fun. How was the rest of the lake, is there ice over near the dam yet?

yes there is ice there but i wouldnt go on it and i broke off one nice fish and they was hitting so hard i about lost a pole twice

That's good news though, several more nights with these kinds of temps & we ought to be able to fish some other spots. I know what you mean about loosing poles, lost several over the years, my brother lost one 2 years ago at deer creek. I've now installed eye screws on the bottom of my best rods and I attach a string to my buckets with small carabiner hook on the other end that I clamp through the loop whenever I'm stepping away from them. Just make sure the string is long enough to still set the hook. Ironically since I did that a few years ago I've never had one go down.
