Planning on heading up to Deer Creek in the morning with my wife. I can't get to the spot I was fishing last week because she don't want to take the quad. The only area I have ice fished at deer creek is across from Charleston by the railroad tracks. I was wondering if there is some decent spots on the east end over by the highway I can take her to? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I was out yesterday afternoon with my daughter. I was north east of the island. just off the high way. we walked out about 200 yards and set up our portable tent. we were in about 25' of water and caught 2. i think if you can get into 25'-40 feet of water you will do better than most people.
Good luck.

Went out two days ago almost straight out into the reservoir from the last pull-out parking area along the highway east end of the reservoir. Got there just as the sun was going down. We punched holes every ten yards out to about 200 yards from the shore. Depth varied from about 15 feet to 23 feet out toward the middle. The only fish I marked on the finder was after we had pulled in the poles two hours later and were packing to leave. No bites.

I didn't go. Decided to stay home instead. Might go tomorrow if I have the motivation to leave the house. If I go tomorrow I'm going to unload the quad at Charleston and ride over to the west end over by the railroad tracks.

Me and my son were there Sat. We left the crowd at the last pullout there by the highway after fishing with no bites for a half hour or so. We walked half way across the lake til we hit the deepest water we found which was 35ft. We caught 2 rainbow there 12ft under the ice, no perch on the bottom. We then went clear to the opposite shore and fished a while with no bites in 8 to 10 ft of water off a small point. Usually 8ft of water off one of those points over there is the best for those rainbow. So we came back toward the middle in the deep water again and caught 4 more rainbow all around 12 to 15ft down again. There was open water all the way across the lake that day from the island to the opposite shore, but west of it where we were was 7 to 8" everywhere we drilled.

Well it started good had one within 10seconds of dropping in but lost at the hole. So of coarse i had to drill more holes setup camera, fish finder, tent and heater. Then nothing. Nothing for many more hours. Drilled holes everywhere no fish to be found. Finally around 3 oclock got into them but was only able to ice 4 before i left. Missed alot in the last hour tho. The last fish i caught hit me while reeling in and was a pig. He ran on me every time i had him at the hole. (10 times) He almost spooled me once. Was disappointed when i finally iced him was really expecting a 5-6 lb but ended up a solid 4 anyways. So much fun tho!

Sorry pikeman meant to put that in there. K ice is 4-5" with lots of soft spots some you can see some you can't. Use extreme caution in the rainbow bay area. Ice was 7-8" at Charleston area and felt much safer. Was catching rainbows on glow ratso tipped with waxies.

		KB,

I am the guy you met at Rainbow Bay tues. afternoon.
Hit your holes for an hour or so with no luck. The
mealworms must have been the trick. I should have
snaged a couple from you. Good to meet you and
hope to see you on the ice again.

Oh and Im glad you made it off that scary a*# ice ok. My nerves are still shot! Ha

Is anyone fishing the charleston inlet?
We wanted to fish it last Friday and it was still open water.
Is it fishable now?

I drove by a few days ago and charleston had plenty of folks fishing out there. Lots of groups, lots of tents. Other reports say it has about 7 inches of ice. You should be good to go.
