Perch head jigs for perch?

I have seen the larger 'perch head' jigs running up to 2 oz in size for walleye. I am wondering if any one has had success jigging with much smaller perch head jigs for perch themselves? I am contemplating fashioning some homemade ones using oversized 3-d perch eyes, polymer clay and some 1/16 oz horizontal jigs. Anyone think it would be worthwhile based on your experience?

I also welcome input on the subject of horizontal vs vertical jigs for perch.
