Utah lake
#1
with the help of some fellow BFT'rs. I decided to go in search of the legendary deep water white bass. As I entered the ice, I scanned the flat white tundra for any movement or sign of life that might indicate in which direction to start walking. I spotted 2 black dots which looked like 10 miles across the barren wasteland. I looked at my brother and he looked at me, and we both agreed, them fish are not going to catch themselves. and we were off. when we arrived at the location, the 2 guys there, were very friendly and helpful. they even offered 2 let us use their power auger. which was nice, considering I was a bit spent from the trek. the fishing was non stop. catching hundreds of white bass, mostly small juvenile's. I would say about 1 in 10 was worth keeping. I have learned that a plate full of white bass fillets, make for a very positive table experience. I enjoyed visiting with the other gentleman, and talking with a couple BFT'rs before this journey began. I hope that we can all remember. we are all in this together. it's nice to share and help fellow anglers to be productive and successful. It always comes back ten fold. Thanks to everyone for your help in making this fishing trip a success, and keeping my family and I safe.

I think it's hilarious that nobody will say where the abyss is. "It's full of tiny white bass that piss everyone off" Ok, so why don't you say where it is? TD already said the more we get out of there the better it will be because they are competing for food and might have a mass die-off this winter. Also the "non-English speakers", as some have call them, probably don't care about this forum, if that's the fear.

It's Utah lake for Pete's sake. Don't litter, don't be jerks and everything will be fine. If they want to walk that far, who should really care? I probably would go, for the drive, if that's why you think I want to know, but I must say my curiosity is getting the best of me.

Funny fishermen =}

I think that's funny, too. The issue is that in a couple years any and all 12"- ers will be there and only there during the late winter. Or so we all fear.

But, it's kinda like not being in the club if nobody you know loves you enough to show you. Same reason I resent Flaming Gorge. Seven or so trips up there on my own without one burbot or laker has me feeling left out from the "cool" group of guys who know this stuff and share info, and invite each other out and stuff.[mad][Smile][Wink].

If I ever find the Abyss, I'll haul a telephone pole out on the ice and plant a flag large and tall enough for all to see that says "FISH HERE!", for all weekend warriors, twice a year dads, and weird guys with no friends like me.

I think the issue is that the spot was found by another gentleman and the location was entrusted to couple of friends/fishing buddys. The gentleman that found it asked those guys not to divulge the location. Out of respect for their friend and fishing buddy they have not done so. There are a lot of white bass in other locations for us to chase. They are harder to find this time of year but they are there. We just have to do the work. Not every fishing post is going to have the location mentioned. I hope that people can respect a confidence that was given to these guys and their desire to keep that confidence. BTW I dont know where it is either[:p]

I wonder if maybe MasterDaad, his daughter & I didn't stumble on it last Sat. I'll take the location to my grave with me. Don't think the hike is worth it for the white bass anyhow. With the lake as low as it is now, the fish were all skinny and appear starved. None of the ones I caught had anything in their stomachs.

I can respect that. It's still funny how much they talk about it though. Really far hike, small skinny white bass that are starving..."Take it to the grave!!!!"
