I caught this fish on a small stream with a variety of trout species in it. One of the craziest looking trout I've ever caught. On close inspection there was a few distinguishing features that tell what it is, but based on this picture whats your guess?

Oncorhynchus mykiss- yes that's rainbow. Just still has some parr marks that haven't totally faded. Under your hand most likely a faint iridescent stripe is starting or will shortly if it was released.

Rainbow was what I thought too, ended up being a cuttbow. A lot of hybridization happens in this stream and some end up with some wild spotting patterns like this guy!

I'm sure it's a cuttyrainbrown. I catch quite a bit of those guys in little cottonwood creek.

No No No you got it wrong. He caught it on a RFP, Random Fly Pattern, as well that's what I use to catch my cuttyrainbrown.

You sure it was not a midge-najatwa? Or a Midge-orgy?

Are you sure you didn't use chest nuts so the fish would puker it's lips and kiss it or a candy cane midge that represent a candy cane?

I'm waiting for the DNA[laugh]. An orangish or red slash isn't a reliable identify feature in differentiating a rainbow from cutt or cuttbow. I'm assuming it had one not shown.
