Welcome to BFT. It would be helpful if you were to indicate what city you will be leaving from.

Bring your ice cleats and you might need a plank depending on where you access the lake. This warm and windy weather we have had the last couple of days has taken the snow of the ice and the edges are getting soft. [frown]

yes I have my ice cleats and will bring some 2" x 8" X 8' planks. Perch bite was very light last Saturday but I did mark several schools.
The trout were active. Just have to find the right point to get on the ice.
If unsafe we can go back to strawberry. There was almost 30" of ice last Saturday on starvation.

We fished the Indian Bay area yesterday. The ice on the main part of the lake is still at least 15 inches thick. The edges are getting thin due to the water level coming up with the recent snow melt. You will need something to span the 6 to 8 foot gap you're going to find in the afternoon. There is a band of open water all around most places and that water warms during the day and further weakens the ice near shore. You may need a plank up to 10 feet long in order to stay dry. The snow has melted on the lake's surface and now it is extremely slick. It is nearly impossible to walk without falling if you don't have cleats or something else on your boots to aid in traction. One guy without cleats yesterday was having a very difficult time and I know he fell at least once.
We found the perch to be very reluctant to bite. When we did see them on the finders they wouldn't hit anything we presented. I caught one perch in about 4 hours of fishing. We did get some trout and they were pretty active most of the day. We fished in 40 to 50 feet of water.
We moved to Rabbit Gulch in the afternoon trying to change our luck. We didn't find any perch but again the rainbows wanted to play so we focused on them.
I don't know why the perch bite has shut down to this point. I suspect the reason is that the perch spawn is approaching and the females are so full of eggs there isn't much room for food.
Good luck and let us know if the perch bite resumes.

[cool][#0000FF]See. It wasn't just me after all.
Looks like a bit more warm weather and some wind and we will be fishing open water.
