Willard ice pics and more
#1
Drove up to Willard about 1pm. Fished the inlet channel for a hour then headed to the North marina to check out the ice. Took the first pic driving along the old highway, freeway bay area, the rest are the south side of the North marina, looking out of the marina and lastly, the outlet area. Found a dead or dieing shad.

Thank you sir for the up date on the bay. I think the rangers there are getting tired of me calling them for lake conditions. Dang it might be april before we will float a boat!!!!

I'm thinking it could be as soon as this weekend, that ice looked pretty bad and I think one good Willard wind could blow it off any time. I would doubt it will be any later that next week. The bad news is that those little shad are dieing all over the place or maybe it is good news, once the little shad are gone those predator fish will be hungry and willing to bite[Wink].

You could call it winter kill. After some many months of ice covering the lake and no food for those little shad they die. If I understand it correctly trout have winter kill because of lack of oxy. Either way the ice is what kills the fish no matter if the cause if lack of food or oxy.

Thanks for the update on the ice conditions. It looks like a good wind will take it off by next week.

With 22 days furlough starting in April, sounds like I may have plenty of time to spend on the Bay this summer.[:/]

What, no bikini-clad Spring breakers? Geez, I'm disappointed. LOL!

Looks like it won't be long now. If it rains this week as forecast, that might do it. It also might help raise the water level. Hope so.

Thanks.

Yup, I'm in your same boat, but probably won't have the money to float in a boat.... That's going to be painful, but nice to have some time... Good luck with it... Later J
