Knoll Fishing
#1
My friend sent me pictures yesterday of him catching Channel Catfish one after another yesterday in the
Knolls area, actually about a mile before the knolls. So I headed down to join in the fun as he caught 4 within 20 min measure over 20 inches with some girth to them. As I pulled off the road I passed a sign and decided to back up to be able to actually read it.

The YELLOW sign had in big letters "POSTED" then in small letter basically saying no trespassing, fishing, hunting, and all the other legal fun stuff. so I parked and called my friend to tell him he was not suppose to fish there and ask him if he saw the sign and he did not.
so he packed up threw his fish back and left with me.

My point is typically signs of that nature should say in big letters "NO TRESPASSING" not "POSTED".

And so everyone knows I am asian and Asians do read the proclamations as I do and follow the law it's those few who give all of us a bad name!

On a positive note I just purchased a fish cat 4 float tube and have never tried tubing, so I was dissapointed I could not get in the water since reading tubedudes post I know it use to be a great spot to launch a tube b ut they scenery was awsome! Sorry no pics of the lovely scenery.

I know it is frustrating but the entire knolls area is now off limits from shore. Hopefully there can be an agreement reached soon. The posted signs may not be what you expected but if you see a big yellow sign with posted in big letters it is probably wise to stop and read the fine print and prevent a ticket or prosecution. It seems that is what you did.

[cool][#0000FF]Sadly, the entire Knolls area was posted as off limits to the public late last summer. There are several land owners, including the LDS church, that had finally had enough trash, vandalism and destructive shooting.

Several of us Knolls fans have been working with the DWR office in Springville to negotiate an arrangement whereby anglers can continue to have access to the Knolls. The wheels grind slowly but progress is being made.

You were wise to not continue. The sheriff's department is taking a no nonsense approach now that the signs are all in place. Anybody caught behind the signs gets a hefty fine.

Sorry your fishing day was spoiled.

So you cannot even be in the water in that area?

TD, if an enterprising tooner wanted to reach the Knolls from the water what is the closest launch point? Would it be Saratoga, or is there something closer to Goshen that has access? (Please keep in mind that I'm operating on a Minn Kota 30 supplemented by limited oar endurance and even less tertiary supply of fin power) [Wink]

You can be in the water but you cant access it from their land. I am not sure there is a very close launch point for tubes and toons. Boats could with no problem.

Aw...that makes sense. I took the original post as his friend was out in the water and thought that was a no, no.

Need shuttle boats[Smile] They do that all the time at Henry's. Motor out to a desired spot then anchor the boat down and everyone climbs in their tubes.

[cool][#0000FF]At this point it is like a private harbor. You cannot access by land, without a permit. However you can come in and fish from the open water by boat, tube, toon, submarine or whatever. Unlike the rulings on some of the flowing waters, the state is considered the owner of the lakebed and the water. So public access is not restricted from afloat.

[cool][#0000FF]It is a bit of a challenge to reach the Knolls from any legal access point without having a boat and a good gas motor. Pontoon with electric might make it there, but could be problematic getting back...especially if one of those daily zephyrs came up.

If you have never fished it before, there is a stretch of shoreline between Lincoln Beach and Goshen that is easy free access and great fishing close to shore. I have caught all species there and some big kitties within a long cast of where I launched.

[cool][#0000FF]That is a good spot for bank tanglin'. Would be good for the girls. And the general shoreline and depths are much like the Knolls.

Yeah I was able to read the sign luckily after I already past it trying to avoid being rear ending by a speeder riding my tail. Just wanted to get the info out here so people don't make the mistake of fishing where they shouldn't and get a ticket.

My friend did get really lucky that I saw the sign, he had been there about an hour before I got to the turn off.

Thanks for the info, can you access that alternate area from the west side or do you have to go through eastside on I15?

I am new to tubing so havn't got it all suped up like yours YET [mad] but tinkering with PVC as we speak... but my first tubing experience will probably have to be at provo harbor this weekend because of the knolls situation.

[cool][#0000FF]Unfortunately, it is a much longer drive than going to the Knolls. That is one of the things I really miss about the Knolls...besides the good fishing.

You must first go to Lincoln Beach...through Spanish Fork, off I-15. Then follow the Lincoln Beach road south around the lake toward Goshen. There are posted signs for several miles but as soon as they run out you can pull off and fish in quite a few places...and most of them are worth stopping. A couple of exploratory trips will help you learn the places that work best for your style of fishing and your personal preferences.

Most of those spots allow easy tube launching. If you can get away during the week you will usually be able to pick just about any spot. On weekends there are more folks hitting it.

Pat, can you access this area coming down past the Knolls on the west side of the lake? Is it possible to get the truck close to the water in the area so I can drop the toon close to the bank?

I might have to go scouting. [Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]That is the hardest way to get to it. You have to drive clear around from the Knolls and you have to know which turnoff to make in Goshen or you will go on the wrong side of the mountain.

Much better to go in from Spanish Fork.

Here are a couple of maps...without the specific turnoffs marked or GPS numbers.

Thanks you for the info, I've used your maps before to get to Lincoln Beach but had never ventured further to Goshen Bay.[cool]
