Has the DWR ever thought of the introducton of gizzard shad to help with gamefish here? I'am sure there are pros/cons.

They thought of it and tried several times to get the feds to approve it, but they could never get approval. Above information was from Tom Pettingill who was a long-time employee with the DWR. The reason they were given was that they were concerned that some bucket biologist would move them from Yuba to Utah Lake and further endanger the June Suckers.

Well isn't the milage about the same from Willard Bay to Utah Lake as Yuba is from Utah Lake? No shad yet I see in UL.
Still I know they have tried and not gotten the approval, which sucks. From what I heard introducing a species at Yuba could endanger a protected species futher down stream/drainage and that is a major no no. Maybe in the future things will change. 1st lets start with Water Rights. [signature]

Live to hunt----- Hunt to live.

Raghorn I will save you some time and summarize that link for ya.
White bass and Yuba will not happen as White Bass are another predatory fish that will just be another mouth to feed and can threaten the drainage as well. Those poor perch need the water levels to remain semi untouched for the spawn. Till then without the perch numbers we will continue the boom and bust of Yuba. Cycle of life I guess. [signature]

I was thinking the mileage was the about same too.
Thanks for summerizing...read it anyways. I had a feeling that this was discussed earlier this year. Thanks for the info everybody[cool]. [signature]

I've changed my mind.
I like the idea of white bass in Yuba. [signature]

Yuba has several problems besides forage. Prime problem is control of the water. Yuba is storage for IPP and irrigation down stream. When they need water, they own it, they draw it, period. There is no conservation pool, no consideration for fish. They can draw it down to nothing, which has been done on several occasions.
Lack of habitat is the next biggest problem. Yuba is a sterile bowl when it comes to habitat. Charlie Thompson tried to put some structure in years back, but it got left high and dry by the draw downs and destroyed. No habitat, the young of the year get eaten. So until these two problems are solved, the question of any forage problem is moot !! So start raising money to purchase a conservation pool and we will be on the way !!

Protected species down stream? I don't know of any, please enlighten me.

I agree with you. Everyone that knows that drainiage already knows there is white bass in the sevier river below yuba. if white bass can thrive in utah lake I don't see why they couldn't in yuba? they seem to do better than perch in any water and if they stunt more food for the pike and walleye!

When I was discussing the matter with a very respeceted fisherman he told me that originally the perch were not allowed in Starvy because of the colorado drainage. A bucket biologist changed that one.
He told me that Yuba could be the same situation. KEY WORK MR. PIKE IS "COULD BE". Besides are you saying that white bass and gizzy's won't have an impact on all the other species downstream? Still white bass aint gonna happen. Where is the food again for all those mouths? [signature]

No need to get so CAPS LOCKED PISSY! I don't recall saying anything about white bass or gizzard shad, I simply asked what the endangered species down stream from Yuba is. Just a simple question because I have never heard of one, and I fish Yuba a lot. So what is the possibly endangered species down stream from Yuba?
